THE YIZRE'EL GILBOA MUSIC SCHOOL

At the Yizre'el Gilboa Music School we aim to make music lessons available for people living in outlying areas of Israel, and to strengthen relationships within local populations: Arabs, Jews, new immigrants, kibbutz and moshav members. Due to an increased demand over the last few years, there has been a significant rise in the number of students learning at the music school. As a result, the original building is too small to deal with rising number of students and we require more classrooms. We urgently need to enlarge the existing building in order to add classrooms and storage space for musical instruments.

Project Details

The Music School was founded in 1995 and is now the central Music School in the Gilboa Regional Council area. Since its founding, it has trained and nurtured generations of musicians and singers regardless of their ages. We pay special attention to community activities, turning music lessons into a tool for community empowerment, creating a cultural center which initiates and holds regional cultural events, developing Jewish - Arabic cooperation, emphasizing music as a bridge-building tool.

The diverse and widespread activities at the Music School include:

A course of study in music which prepares pupils for their "bagrut" examinations at a 5 point level. In addition they present a "bagrut" recital in their instrument of choice.

The Amadeus program: an original program for teaching musical instruments in groups at the Gilboa Regional Council elementary schools. We aim to give every child the opportunity to receive a musical education, to enhance the cultural atmosphere within the schools and to assist reducing violence.

The Golden Amadeus program encourages senior citizens to fulfil a dream and learn to play an instrument or to sing.

The Music School initiates and produces regional cultural events which are open to the general public.

Despite our extensive work and the Music School's contribution to the community and the region, we do not receive significant support from any other source.
